Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of life saving, expensive ventilators for respiratory support was critical but in short supply. Ghana doctors began seeking ways to reduce the need for these ventilators while providing critical respiratory support. The doctors partnered with faculty, alumni, and students at the Bioengineering Department at Northeastern University.
To address this need, a simple device was designed, tested, and used at clinics in Ghana. Reviewing this development process led to the idea to form the non-profit corporation.
To address Ghana’s unmet medical needs, 4GBI (For Ghana Biomedical Innovation) the non-profit corporation was formed in August 2022.
